As the Director
of Education Services for the World Hockey Centre,
I offer many services to assist our players in meeting
their educational goals while they are pursuing
their hockey aspirations. All of our teachers are
experienced teachers, who are members of the Ontario
College of Teachers and the Ontario Secondary School
Teachers' Federation. High
School Credit Courses -
Students complete graduation requirements which
have been organized either through their own school
district's home schooling program, or through Summit
Christian Acadamy in Texas. Because Summit uses
the Alpha Omega curriculum which has a compact disk
format, we recommend that students provide their
own laptop computer for these courses. Since compulsory
evening classes are scheduled for two and a half
hours Monday through Thursday, it is reasonable
to expect that in this time, motivated, enthusiastic
students will be able to complete three courses
(plus one physical education credit granted by Summit
for hockey training). Students who fall behind will
attend additional classes on weekends. Frequent
contact with home keeps parents informed of their
son's progress, and communication with coaches ensures
that players understand their educational responsibilities. |
 |
High School Mathematics
and English Classes - Students
who have graduated from high school and are
planning on attending college or university
improve their mathematics or English skills
by attending two hours of classes every week.
Students may register for one or both of these
classes. SAT
Classes - Players
will attend classes immediately preceding
each each SAT test to develop effective strategies
in taking the SAT. Because each class is capped
at twelve students, classes are filled on
a first-come first-served basis. |
|
| SAT Tutoring
- Those students
requiring extra assistance in preparing for
their SAT's may register for one-on-one tutoring
with qualified teachers who will administer
a needs analysis, and work with the student
to fill in the blanks in his learning.
Note
- There
is an additional fee for these services.
